There are many dangerous spiders in the world. We will give you information on three harmful or dangerous spiders spiders two of which are commonly found here in Texas.

Brown Recluse [Loxosceles reclusa] Photo

    1. The body of the Brown recluse is about 3/10 to 1/2 inch long.

    2. May measure larger with legs included in measurement.

    3. They have a fiddle shape marking on top.

    4. A bite from these spiders may cause infection and could take months to heal.

    5. Found in garages, firewood piles, and often living near humans, in bathrooms, bedrooms and closets, under furniture, behind baseboards, or in corners and crevices. They are most active at night people are sometimes bitten while asleep or when putting on clothes that have been stored from past seasons.

    1. 1/2 to 1.5 inches long

    2. Build large webs

    3. Have a reddish hour glass shape beneath the abdomen.

    4. Considered to be the most venomous spider in the U.S.

    5. remain in irregular, tangled webs for the most of their lives.

Hobo Spider [Tegenaria agrestis] Photo

  1. Body can be up to ¾” in length

  2. Build funnel shaped webs

  3. Not normally found in North Texas

Wolf Spider [Lycosa carolinensis] Photo

  1. From 1/2 to 2 inches in length

  2. They do not spin webs

  3. Common in homes around doors, windows, house plants, basements, garages.

  4. Not poisonous but bites can cause reactions
